Ever wake up and feel like it’s your day off? Really a day off – with nothing on the calendar and nothing hanging over you needing to be wrapped up? [If you haven’t, come along on a journey with me, it’ll be a new experience.]
So maybe it’s time to roll over. Go back to sleep.
Or – close your eyes and go back into your last dream. Make it work the way you’d like it to. You’re changing a reality. Maybe you go back to sleep. Maybe you don’t.
Anyway, now maybe it’s time to think about waking up and dealing with the day. A day that’s waiting for you to make it whatever you want it to be.
Or – you stretched a bit. And remembered those yoga stretches you can do on your back. And did them, with your feet sticking off the end of the bed, dodging a probing paw.
OK – time to get up. On somebody’s schedule, anyway. Two cups of coffee, scan the headlines, same old same old. Answer the email? No. Maybe later. Or not. “Like” a couple of FB posts. Do you really like the posts? Well…they’re OK, but…you know it’s been a while since you talked with your friend and you want to let them know you’re still thinking of them.
Ah – maybe it’s time to take a shower.
Stretch out on the bed.
Wake up a few hours later.
Repeat the last few paragraphs.
Another day in Paradise.
And if it’s not,
take a day, an hour, even a minute. Create your own paradise. For you, for your sanity, for the wellbeing of everyone you touch. It’s easy to fill time with stuff – particularly that stuff we really don’t care for that demands doing just so we can get by. It’s even easier to fill a day with stuff we love to do. Have you ever tried enjoying a day for its own sake, not for the sake of a task?
Close your eyes, turn off your ears.
Try it. Even if a second or three is all you think you can spare.
It might become a habit.
Or an addiction.
I try to make most Sunday’s my day off: simply glorious!
Only one day a week?
